Even though the future of Transformers 5 is still in a state of limbo, there is no stopping plot rumors and spoilers for the sequel to Age of Extinction.

Transformers 5 Release Pushed to Summer 2017?

Accoring to a new report, Rodius Prime and Hot Rod will be returning for the next instalment of the movie and will most likely play the new saviors, set to protect earth from the antagonists. It is believed that while Optimus Prime takes off into space toward cybertron to look for his creator, Rodius and Hot Rod will guard the mortals on planet earth.

Earlier this year it had been revealed that Transformers 4: Age of Extinction was only the beginning to a new phase in the series, and a trilogy will be led by Mark Wahlberg. But there seem to have been talk of issues between Bay and Paramount.

All New Cast To Be Lined Up For Age of Extinction Sequel?

While Bay has made it pretty clear that he will not be returning for the fifth instalment of the franchise, the cast might alss follow suit. InitiallyAge of Extinction was meant to helm the next phase of the franchise, which was reportedly going to be a trilogy and it was assumed that Bay and Mark Wahlberg -- believed to be the new face of the series -- were the new team. Bay's exit might spur the actors -- Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor -- to drop out as well. Recent reports suggest that the actor's involvement in the sequel to Age of Extinction is not certain.

In fact in April, Wahlberg spoke to the LA Times about the fact that Transformers 4 was not a sequel and that he has never done a sequel in his career.

While Age of Extinction slayed at the box office it hasn't been much of a success with critics as it has gotten some pretty bad reviews pointing to a sensory overload with excessive use of technical, CGI mined wizardry and a lack of a strong plot, with the human characters almost rendered meaningless.

Transformers: Age of Extinction hit theaters on June 27, 2014.
