Two more leading characters will be appearing on Penny Dreadful this season, though two new regulars on the Showtime series will be familiar faces.

Things Are 'Electric' As 'Penny Dreadful' Films Season 2

On Monday Deadline announced that Helen McCrory and Simon Russell Beale will both be credited as series regulars when the program returns for its second season.

Both McCrory and Beale were featured sporadically throughout Season 1, McCrory making a brief appearance as Madame Kali and Beale giving a memorable performance as the superficially eccentric Egyptologist Ferdinand Lyle.

Jack The Ripper Could Appear On 'Penny Dreadful'

McCrory and Beale even shared a scene when their characters both appeared during the noteworthy séance from Episode 2.

In the scene, Vanessa Ives (Eva Green)  was revealed to be a vessel for the dead and damned, which could play into Madame Kali's interest in her for Season 2. Madame Kali also appeared at the end of the season, running into Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) in London and taking a rather careful interest in him.

In July, series creator John Logan revealed that Madame Kali is intended to be the new human "villain" on the Victorian supernatural drama (featured below), with a scene revealing her intent having been cut from the Season 1 finale before the episode aired on television.

Bringing in about five million viewers per week over the summer, the program earned an extra two episodes for the upcoming season.

Penny Dreadful returns to Showtime for a second season in 2015.
