While the latest movie in the Divergent franchise just wrapped, it seems like one of the series' biggest stars is headed to another tentpole to lead the franchise with its original star leaving.

'Insurgent' Stars Dish On What They Are Geeky For & Life During Press Tours

Variety reported on Thursday that Divergent star Theo James would be reprising his role in the Underworld franchise, which would lead to him taking over as the franchise's star. James appeared in Underworld: Awakening as an ally to former star Kate Beckinsale.

The site added that it seems like Beckinsale won't return to the franchise after leading the previous films.

'Insurgent' Star Being Recast For Future Movies?

James has been mainly working on the Divergent movies as of late, with the possibility of taking over the franchise in a set of spinoff films that would follow the final films release in 2017. But with him taking over the Underworld franchise, it would seem like those spinoffs would need to be put on hold, or have his role re-cast.

The franchise launched in 2003 with Underworld, directed by Len Wiseman and starring Beckinsale, followed by 2006's Underworld: Evolution, 2009's Underworld: Rise of the Lycans and 2012's Underworld: Awakening, which grossed $160 million worldwide.

Variety added that while it may seem like a reboot, the franchise would probably try and focus the story around the already developed world and just build off of James' character's appearance in the last movie.

There is no date set for the franchise to take off again, but James will be seen next in 2015's Insurgent.
