Miss New York Kira Kazantsev became Miss America 2015 beating out 52 other contestants on Sunday night.

The 23-year-old, whose talent was singing and aimed to bring attention to domestic violence, received a $50,000 scholarship for her win. Of course, she also has a huge year ahead.

The rest of the top five included Miss Arkansas Ashton Campbell, Miss Florida Victoria Cowen, Miss Virginia Courtney Paige Garrett and Miss Massachusetts Lauren Kuhn.

This also marks the third year in a row that New York took home the title. Last year's winner, Nina Davuluri, 25, was there to hand over her crown.

Davuluri, an Indian-American and Syracuse N.Y. native, showed her pride with a Bollywood dance during the talent segment of the competition and faced a lot of racism after she was crowned. Many Twitter users criticized her background and her traditional dance. However, she brushed off all the negativity and instead focused on making a difference.

"It was about reaching out to that young girl, who I knew was watching Miss America the night I won and for her to finally say, 'Wow, this year Miss America looks likes me," she said in a recent interview. "And, I don't have to have what people might consider a normal talent on the Miss America stage to be in this role and to really embrace their identify and their culture and their heritage."
