Gracepoint isn't the UK's Broadchurch, even if it boasts David Tennant as the leading man.

How Will David Tennant's Emmitt Carver Fit In As An Outsider On 'Gracepoint'? Nick Nolte Explains Small Town Problems

The Doctor Who star played DI Alec Hardy across the pond, but now Fox has branded him as Detective Emmett Carver, an outsider tasked with solving the murder of a young boy in a small, coastal Californian town.

Gracepoint didn't just change characters' names, however. The event series will quickly depart from its origins, and Tennant didn't feel at all like he was repeating the same role once more.

David Tennant Questions 'Gracepoint' Killer's Identity In New Featurette

"Actors are used to repeating things," Tennant explained to Entertainment Weekly. "On stage you do it eight times a week. Telling the same story is not foreign to us, and this didn't even feel like that because you're telling it with different people and telling-at times-a different story. [The roles] felt very different in my bones."

When the 10-part series comes to a close, even the ending will be different.

"What they have is a very different note, which is thrilling for me," Tennant told Entertainment Weekly. "I feel like I'm almost saying too much just saying that. There's a real thrill to come."
