While he was there for some comedic relief and helped to secure the Guardians some aid from the Nova Corps in the first movie, it seems like Rhomann Dey could be even more important in the sequel and maybe even add a big name to the ranks of the corps.

In an article by MoviePilot on Monday, the site speculated that Dey (played by John C. Reilly). According to the site, Dey plays a key role in the comics, recruiting New Yorker Richard Rider to become Nova.

With much talk of the Guardians of the Galaxy coming to Earth (or Iron Man going to space) is this the storyline that will connect the two sides of the Marvel Universe, and perhaps ensure collaboration in The Avengers 3?

They went on to speculate if Thanos would make his presence known to the Nova Corps with a possible retrieval of the power stone that he lost during the course of the first movie and the one that the Guardians gave to the Nova Corps for safe keeping.

It is possible that Nova will appear in the movie because while writer/director James Gunn has refuted it, he has also realized that the character is one of the fan favorites from the comics and Marvel may overrule and put the character in the movie anyway.

It is also likely that Thanos will appear again in this movie, maybe in one of his attempts to secure the infinity stones for his gauntlet before facing the Avengers in the third movie.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is set to open in theaters on July 28, 2017.
