The first images of the Opening Ceremony at the London Olympics 2012 have surfaced as a billion of viewers from around the world expect the show to begin. The first scene is showing a stage with green pastures that according to the organizers represent a traditional and idyllic view of the British countryside,

In a pre-show presentation, some of the 10,000 volunteers were enacting scenes of the daily life taking picnics and playing sports that were played at the time. The set is complete with meadows, fields and rivers and farmers tilling the soil. Real farmyard animals are featured including horses, cows, goats, chickens, ducks, geese, sheep, and sheep dogs.

The ceremony is expected to be of a huge scale, following the steps of the 2008 Beijing Olympics' ceremonies. It will feature 10,000 performers, 900 children performers,  nearly 13,000 props and more than 160,000 square feet of staging, the equivalent to 12 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

It is predicted to be viewed live by over a billion people. In the United States, the broadcast will be played on delay at 7:30 pm EST (6:30 p.m. CST) and 7:30 pm PST on NBC.
