The most recent rumors may have Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men) out of negotiations for HBO's second season of True Detective, but the latest talk has tied a number of new actresses to the highly anticipated crime drama.

New Director In Talks For 'True Detective' Season 2

On Tuesday True Detective Rumors revealed that Malin Akerman is under serious consideration for a role on the series. It is uncertain at this time whether or not the actress is being considered for the same law enforcement role Moss was supposedly set to play, but the news does have fans scurrying for new clues.

Born in Stockholm, Sweden the 36-year-old actress has a couple of big-budget films under her belt, including the 2009 graphic novel adaptation Watchmen. That same year she also starred in Couples Retreat alongside Vince Vaughn (Wedding Crashers, Into the Wild), who has also been rumored to be up for a role in True Detective's second season.

'True Detective' Season 2 Casting Rumors

Other actors said to be up for leading roles include Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights) and Colin Farrell (Saving Mr. Banks, Minority Report). Rumors regarding the show's cast have been varied and inconsistent since the announcement of a second season. Officially, no decisions have been set in stone just yet.

The second season of HBO's breakout hit will take place in California and could be more heavily invested in the workings of government than the Louisiana-set Season 1. Creator Nic Pizzolatto is returning to write all of the episodes, with a number of different directors stepping in to replace Emmy winner Cary Fukunaga.

True Detective is scheduled to return to HBO for a second season in mid-2015.
