The Big Bang Theory showrunner Steve Molaro spoke with TVGuide.com recently about what Sheldon will be up to in Monday night's season premiere.

After Sheldon gets robbed in his sleeper car in Kingman, Ariz. and calls Leonard to come rescue him instead of girlfriend Amy (Mayim Bialik), which does not please her.

"That hurts her feelings. They talk about it and they're fine after that," Molaro revealed. "They're not a couple that changes all that drastically. They do, but it's a slow process. But moving forward, it's fairly status quo for those two."

Overall, the trip away from home will have Sheldon feeling pretty sad due to the robbery and the shame of having Leonard come all the way out to pick him up.

"He's down on himself because he feels like he failed because all his items were stolen and Leonard had to pick him up," Molaro explained. "But they do a pretty good job of bucking him up and making him realize that he survived this adventure and he is better off for it."

After he returns to Pasadena, Sheldon will be switching his focus from string theory to dark matter and he agrees to teach a class on it in the second episode of the season.

"One of the solutions the university was able to come to was if Sheldon were to become a junior professor. That would allow him to make the switch," Molaro revealed. "So he reluctantly agrees to teach a class."

However, the only person who has signed up for the class is Howard (Simon Helberg), and hijinks ensue.

The Big Bang Theory Season 8 is set to premiere Monday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. It will be a one-hour premiere with the first two episodes airing back to back.
