With the king of digging into nostalgia on board, it seemed likely that the Power Rangers reboot would be able to make a whole new franchise. It still could, but one of the key members is leaving to go and work on another project that he was attached to direct.

The Cast For The 'Power Rangers' Could Be A Bunch Of Unknowns

Deadline reported on Friday that executive producer Roberto Orci would be leaving the project due to a scheduling conflict with his directorial debut, Star Trek 3. Orci will no longer be involved with the project, but it doesn't change the release date.

According to the report, Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, who penned the screenplays for X-Men: First Class and Thor, will continue to write the script.

Former Black Ranger Teases Cameo In 'Power Rangers' Reboot

Saban, who hatched the Power Rangers franchise, is producing with Brian Casentini, head of development and production for Saban Brands, and Allison Shearmur, who oversaw The Hunger Games when she was President of Production at Lionsgate.

Orci has made a name for himself in the business of reviving franchises stepped in nostalgia. He was a writer for the Transformers movies as well as The Amazing Spider-Man franchise and Star Trek. He is now taking over to the direct the third Star Trek movie after director J.J. Abrams left to do Star Wars: Episode VII.

While Orci has made it clear that he was excited about the franchise, it seems like getting a big directing gig for an established franchise comes first. But with Miller and Stenz still locked in, it seems like nothing the new series can't handle.

Power Rangers is set to open in theaters on July 22, 2016.
