Two of the leads on Season 2 of HBO's True Detective have officially been cast, and it looks as though the series is going for more movie stars.

HBO officially confirmed that actors Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will be two of the leads featured in True Detective Season 2. The actors had previously been rumored to be in discussion for the second season of HBO's crime anthology series. Like Season 1 stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, Farrell and Vaughn are very well-known movie stars.

Farrell is set to play Ray Velcoro, a detective "whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him," according to HBO.

Presumably, the "mobster who owns him" is Vaughn's character Frank Semyon. Frank is described as "a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner."

Farrell and Vaughn are just two of the leads set to star in the new season. Two more leads are currently being cast, putting the total at four main characters as opposed to last year's two. At least one female actor is expected to join Farrell and Vaughn.

The logline for Season 2 reads: "Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder."

The new season will reportedly take place in California, a big departure from the Louisiana-set first season.

True Detective Season 2 is expected to air in mid-2015 on HBO.
