It seems that Regina (Lana Parrilla) may be facing her most difficult season yet on ABC's Once Upon a Time, as she battles others as well as herself.

Elizabeth Mitchell's Snow Queen Character Is Dark In "Chilling Fashion"

Popular Once Upon a Time fan-site OnceUponaTimeFans.com conducted an interview with show creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, featuring all fan questions. Many wanted to know about Regina's arc over the course of Season 4.

While Regina has fought many people in the past, she will be battling her own demons in Season 4.

Elsa Won't Necessarily "Let It Go" on Once Upon a Time

"Yes, it's Regina facing herself and the years of growth we've seen in her character since the pilot that are now being put to the test by circumstances," Horowitz explained. "She's going to have to look inward and fight her own demons."

Regina was devastated after Robin Hood's (Sean Maguire) lover Marian (Christie Laing) was brought back from the past by Emma (Jennifer Morrison) at the end of Season 3. Part of the first half of the season will be exploring Regina and Emma's strained relationship, the creators revealed.

As heavily advertised, one of the biggest factors in the new season is the introduction of the world of Frozen. As Elsa (Georgina Haig) enters Storybrooke, she will predictably bring her icy powers with her. Regina will attempt to melt said ice in the new season

"Well, I can tell you that we'll see Regina do her best attempt to melt ice!" Kitsis revealed, before adding, "we can also tell you it will not be against Elsa, who is not a villain."

Once Upon a Time Season 4 begins Sunday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
