'Agents Of SHIELD' Season 2 Premiere: Fitz Speaks Out, Iain De Caestecker Dishes On Injured Character

Under the supposition that her departure would help Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) recuperate (it definitely isn't, by the way), Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) disappeared over the hiatus. While Henstridge has teased that viewers will see Simmons become more of an individual throughout season 2, series creators Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen are staying tightlipped regarding the agent's physical return.

"We will see her," Whedon told Entertainment Weekly. "She will be seen, it's just that what does it mean? We can't really say what that means."

If/when Simmons does resurface, the biochem specialist will have to rework her friendship with the love struck Fitz.

"I'm curious to see how she develops as an individual, and what that means to different relationships that she might be able to have on a platonic level and romantically now that she's perhaps not as tied to Fitz as she once was," Henstridge told Marvel.com. "But I'm also curious about the relationship between her and Fitz because there's so much love there, that this is an obstacle I hope they can get over. But I guess only time will tell."
