Team Germany is marking their presence at the 2012 Olympic Games this summer.

In the equestrian team events for jumping, aired on July 31, Germany stole the gold and Great Britain brought the silver medal back home.  New Zealand came in third with the bronze.

Germany's five athletes, made up of three men and two women, secured the title for their country as the nation with the most equestrian Olympic medals of all time. Germany has a total of 56 medals, 26 of which are gold.

USA holds the second most equestrian medals in Olympic history, though on July 31 they came in 7th place.

The equestrian individual jumping competition went under way also on July 31 and Germany won the top medal again. Michael Jung received the gold for his country, followed by Sweden getting the silver and Germany with the bronze.

The equestrian competitions end on Aug. 9 though the official last day of the 2012 Olympics is Aug. 12. The sport is one of three Olympic Games were men and women compete against one another. It made its summer Olympics debut at the 1900 Olympics in Paris. The sport is challenging in the sense that not only might the rider train him or herself, but all the horse. The synchronization of them both is the key to success in all aspects of riding, jumping and manuevering the horse. Equestrian is also the only Olympic sport where an animal is used.
