"I am really thrilled to be making my West End debut in such an iconic show," the singer told BBC News on Monday.

Scherzinger will be taking on the role of Grizabella and claims the production has special meaning to her. "I grew up listening to Andrew's extraordinary music and was lucky enough, a couple of years ago, to record Cats' beautiful song Memory," she explained.

 Singer Honored By Queen Elizabeth

"Andrew's score is breathtaking and I am truly honored to have been asked to take part in what I know will be a very special time in my career," the singer continued, "I can't wait to begin rehearsals."

Over the years Scherzinger has performed a number of Webber's famous songs, including The Phantom Of The Opera in 2011 and Don't Cry For Me Argentina from Evita in 2013. Cats will, however, mark the first time the former Pussycat Doll will be performing as an official cast member in one of his shows. Previously she served as a judge for three years on the Simon Cowell competition series The X Factor.

Premiering at the New London Theatre in 1981, Cats went on to be produced in over 30 countries across the world. It ran on Broadway for 18 years.

Scherzinger will make her debut in the production on Dec. 6, 2014.
