The Originals returns to The CW this Monday with its second season and the cast seems just as excited as fans for the "epic" premiere.

Klaus & Marcel Discuss Strategy In New 'The Originals' Clip

On Saturday stars Leah Pipes (Cami) and Phoebe Tonkin (Hayley) chatted with Hollywire TV about humanity, relationships, and the "handsome men" of New Orleans (featured below).

There was plenty of laughter as the actresses opened up about the show, particularly from Pipes. "I'm still being a human…" she admitted of her character, joking in the sense that Cami seems to be the only human left on the program who's not a witch or supernatural in some way.

Pipes went on to reveal that her character will begin the season sort of on the outskirts of town, though she won't be away for long. "How long can you stay away from such handsome men?" she teased with a laugh. "There are so many handsome men in the French quarter."

If Cami is still a human, then Hayley's about as far away from that as she can get at this point. She became a hybrid during the Season 1 finale, and her new place in life has her nothing of not confused.

"At the beginning of this season Hayley doesn't really know how to be a hybrid…" explained Tonkin, noting that the new hybrid will be relatively lost for the first five episodes. "She's kind of leaning on Klaus for guidance and Klaus is really not kind of he best person to kind of be taking advice from."

Bonded by parenthood and their status as hybrids, Tonkin assured fans that nothing romantic will be going on between Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Hayley when the show returns, "playing against the stereotype" of "this epic love story."

"They're both pretty volatile characters," added the actress, "Which is hard."

During Season 1 a potential romance between Hayley and Klaus' brother Elijah (Daniel Gillies) had developed, though Tonkin admitted that things between them will be different this time around. She's no longer pregnant and, in a way, the two will be meeting each other all over again.

"She kind of puts up a wall because she doesn't want to be hurt," claims Tonkin, who noted that Hayley worries about being "let down" by Elijah.

As a result, she might find herself closer to Klaus than ever before, even if the relationship is not a romantic one, and in a city this dangerous is always helps to have powerful allies.

The Originals returns to The CW for its second season on a new night, Monday Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
