Now, the 26-year-old is taking on an even more surprising cover for her first single. On Monday, the Voice winner released a cover of Madonna's controversial '80s hit Like a Virgin. Although Sister Cristina didn't remove her religious garb in the video, she did sing ever one of the racy lyrics.

However, Sister Cristina said she didn't choose the song to "provoke or scandalize." Instead, Sister Cristina, who became a nun in 2010 after being a rebellious teen, felt a connection to the song.

"Reading the text, without being influenced by previous interpretations, you discover that it is a song about the power of love to renew people. To rescue them from their past. And this is the way that I wanted to interpret it," she told Italian newspaper Avvenire. "For this reason we have transformed this song from the pop-dance piece which it was, into a romantic ballad, a bit like the ones by Amos Lee. Something more similar to a lay prayer, than to a pop piece."

Sister Cristina, who has over 130,000 Facebook followers, will release her debut album on Nov. 11 under Republic Records.
