Jimmy Smits's Nero is still alive and kicking on FX's Sons of Anarchy, but he's take a turn, morally, when it comes to his business.

What Drea de Matteo Chose To Take From Set of 'Sons of Anarchy'

Charming appears to be an unescapable force to many characters on Sons of Anarchy, Nero included. While Nero wants to leave it all behind, he keeps getting pulled back by Gemma (Katey Sagal). Smits spoke with Vulture about Nero's moral quandary and potentially teased what's ahead for his end game.

"There are just too many bad f---in' things happening," he said, of Nero's decision to quit. "His gut is telling him to go. He's always been looking toward the door, but especially in this world, s--- happens, big time. Romance, brotherhood, camaraderie, business, blood and guts - all that s--- happens. It's just gnawing at him. He's been very complicit, and there's a feeling of people getting their just desserts and things coming back around."

Asked if Nero is gone too far at this point to possibly leave Charming behind, Smits replied, "I think they've all gone too far."

While Nero continues to have a complex relationship with Gemma, Smits noted that there are other things that are more important to him and those in Charming.

"In this particular world, there are other things that trump romance. Your loyalty to family and the patch and the brotherhood trumps love in a lot of different ways," he said. "It wouldn't be surprising to me, story-wise, if it all goes south."

With only six episodes left of Sons of Anarchy, fans should expect any number of things to go south for these doomed characters.

Sons of Anarchy airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
