Dancing With the Stars fan favorite Derek Hough recently wrote in his weekly blog about the upcoming Team Dances and how the team-picking process went down.

When Is Len Goodman Returning to Dancing With the Stars?

Hough and his celebrity partner Bethany Mota are set to dance with Janel Parrish & Val Chmerkovskiy, Lea Thompson and Artem Chigvintsev and Michael Waltrip & Emma Slater for their Team Dance on Monday. Mota & Hough and Alfonso Ribeiro & Witney Carson are the team captains.

The five-time DWTS winner wrote in his TVGuide.com blog that he was using his past record with picking Team Dances to his benefit.

"They always tease and bring up my perfect record in the team dances, so I was joking around with Witney [Carson] before I knew we would be one of the team captains. I was like, 'Hey, pick me. I have a perfect record!' And now that we're on different teams, I'm like, 'Too bad!' It's all in good fun."

Hough also wrote about Mota's "breakthrough" this week, in which both of them realized that they needed to have her know the dance moves on her own even when he's not there.

"She could follow us, but she didn't know her steps herself and the count. We discovered it in Australia because when she's on her own, she has to be able to do it herself. I told her, 'I need you to know all your moves yourself even when you're dancing with me, as if I weren't there.' That was a big epiphany. She was like, 'Oh, man!' So that made a big difference."

In addition to the Team Dance, Hough and Mota will be dancing the Paso Doble for their regular performance.

Dancing With the Stars airs Monday nights at 8/7c on ABC.
