Tyler Ritter, 29, has officially joined the cast of the upcoming new comedy The McCarthys. He opened up about taking after his dad with the New York Post.

"Every child goes through that moment - where if they idolize their parents or their older siblings and they see those people loving their work and loving their lives in that sphere... [and] wonders if they could tap into that and still have their own identity."

John starred in the classic Three's Company as well as the hit series 8 Simple Rules, before passing away tragically back in 2003. He was 54 years old.

In The McCarthys, Tyler takes on the role of Ronny, the homosexual son of a Boston family, full of sports fanatics. He rocks the family, especially his parents, when he decides to relocate to Providence. While his mother (played by Laurie Metcalf) is emotionally ruined for a moment, his father (Jack McGee) attempts to take matters into his hands and hires him to be the assistant basketball coach fo a high school, in order to stop him from leaving.

Tyler opened up about his role and said, "I grew up in a household that was very close, very open and always talked about what was going on with each other. Ronny is...going to be dealing with what coaching a basketball team is like and how he's going to maintain his dad's pride in him with the team on the line."

He added that the legacy of hard work his father taught him as a child has stuck with him long after his passing.
