The mysterious tattoo man (Brian Van Holt), however, is doing just that. Unfortunately, it is unknown if he is the only other alien scribe walking the earth.

"If this Mystery Man has any answers to the puzzle Coulson has been trying to solve, you can bet that he will try to find him," teased series creators Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, according to Entertainment Weekly. "Let's just hope S.H.I.E.L.D. gets to him first."

As for the tattoo man's real identity, Whedon and Tancharoen would only give one hint.

"At the very least, we can say the he has an extremely high pain threshold," the EPs told Entertainment Weekly.
