Everyone's been waiting for HBO to announced the lead actress for True Detective's second season, but recently fans got somewhat of a surprise.

Cary Fukunaga Is Coming Back To 'True Detective'

On Thursday Deadline announced that the hit crime drama will be getting not one, but three leading ladies.

Kelly Rielly (Black Box) will be stepping into a season-long role as a character named Morgan, while Abigail Spencer (Suits) and Levin Rambin (The Tomorrow People) will be getting recurring roles.

Taylor Kitsch Took Year Off To Land 'True Detective' Role

Deadline also reported that Michael Irby (Almost Human) has landed a recurring character on the popular series.

These four television stars will be joining Taylor Kitsch (Wolverine, Lone Survivor), who announced his involvement with the series earlier this week. The show's upcoming season will star Colin Farrell (Minority Report, Saving Mr. Banks) and Vince Vaughn (Into the Wild, Wedding Crashers) who will be following in the footsteps of their predecessors Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as big-name movie actors taking on some dark roles on the small-screen.

Director Justin Lin will helm the season premiere, taking over for Season 1's Emmy-winning Cary Fukunaga. All eight episodes wild be written by series creator Nic Pizzolatto. The new episodes are set in California, which also happens to be where production will take place over the next few months. Filming begins in three weeks and there is still one female role to be cast, though Rachel McAdams is still the predicted favorite.

True Detective returns to HBO for a second season mid-2015.
