This could be the next big trend with superhero movies: super villains. With Sinister Six and Suicide Squad on the way, could other studios use their big name villains in standalone movies and could this lead to Fox making a Magneto one?

Jennifer Lawrence's Next Solo Franchise Coming From 'X-Men?'

One character that has been a staple in the comic book movie scene is Magneto with both Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender giving fantastic performances in the role. But would they be available for a standalone movie?

McKellen is 75 years old and while he loves the character, who knows if he would be able to pull of his own film. While he would certainly give the performance, one has the wonder how much he would desire doing a solo film, without Patrick Stewart, after he just finished extensive work on the Hobbit trilogy and appeared in the most recent X-Men movie.

Is The Original Cast Of 'X-Men' Set To Return Again In 'Apocalypse?'

Fassbender, on the other hand, is young, but his growing schedule has tied him down to other roles and he probably wouldn't have time either. He currently is trying to jumpstart an Assassin's Creed franchise, but with no luck, and has his other engagements to X-Men.

Fassbender would probably be the best choice as they could dive into what the character did between First Class and Days of Future Past or even his origin more. But with McKellen, it would be interesting to see where they go with the character and if they could fill in some blanks about his history during the original trilogy.

X-Men: Apocalypse is set to open in theaters on May 27, 2016.
