While right now it looks like the next Captain America film could be one of the biggest Marvel has ever made, it probably won't compare to the massive team-up in the third Avengers movie that will happen later on down the road in two parts. But is Joss Whedon done with the franchise before that?

Is A Major Marvel Team-Up Happening In A Future Disney/Pixar Movie?

Deadline reported on Friday that Captain America: Winter Solider and the upcoming Civil War directors Anthony and Joe Russo are being eyed to take over for Avengers: Infinity Wars after Whedon steps down from the franchise.

According to the site, the Russos are building up their Marvel cred with this all-star outing, and (they) keep hearing they will step up to the ultimate Marvel all-star team and take the reins of The Avengers franchise from Joss Whedon, possibly with that next film that will shoot back to back.

Chris Hemsworth Could Die In 'Thor 3' So That Marvel Could Hold Him Until Later Film

This has been rumored since the most recent Marvel announcement and the news that Robert Downey Jr. would be jumping on for the third Captain America movie. While most thought Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn may be considered, recent comments by the director seem to stipulate that he is focused on his own franchise and isn't worried at all by a crossover.

It makes sense that Whedon may step away from the franchise as he has been locked in to the Avengers movies since the first one and recently finished production on the second. With the third movie being two parts, maybe Whedon wanted to move away from Marvel and do some original work.

While it is yet to be confirmed either way, this is the second report that ties the Russos to Avengers 3 in the past few months and seems to raise that they are being highly considered.
