Taylor Swift gained a pretty cool title-New York City's Global Welcome Ambassador- now that she's calling the Big Apple home, but some New Yorkers aren't thrilled over this news, yet fellow musician, Billy Joel totally supports her and that's saying a lot since he's a New York native.

Taylor Swift & Her Label Are Not On Board With Spotify

Last month, Swift was named the Tourism Ambassador, when NYC & Company released promotional videos of the pop star such as her defining essential New York City vocabulary.

Many New Yorkers reacted poorly to the news since Swift is "the most non-New York person in New York" as said by Dish Nation co-host Headkrack. You can catch his entire commentary against Swift being named in this tourism role for the City at the end of this article.

Now, Joel is defending Swift to the masses. He said in an interview with USA Today last Wednesday that Swift is "Welcome" to New York, much like her cool tune off of 1989, which praises this city.

Joel further said, "I see the New York press going, 'Taylor Swift is going to be the new New York representative?'" as if they're mocking her. He isn't cool with that. He claims, "You snoots. Let her in. That's what New York is all about."

It turns out Joel is even a fan of the "Welcome to New York" singer, saying, "I think she's a talented songwriter. She catches a lot of junk, maybe because she's so popular with young girls. But I like what she's projecting. I respect what she's doing."
