"I grew up on my grandparents' farm, so I knew about environmentalism even before it was a hot topic and I always had a strong connection to the world around me," the Oklahoma native told the magazine. "I also saw that there was a disconnect in our industry between producing things not just responsibly to the environment, but also to people, and paying people fairly. Valletta, who has covered Vogue magazine more than 16 times, worked with three dozen designers on the project, including Vivienne Westwood, Clare Vivier and Organic by John Patrick. All of them share her belief that consumers should avoid disposable, poorly-made pieces of clothing and shop for better and everlasting ones.
