Demi Lovato may only be 22-years-old, but the singer is wise beyond her years especially when it comes to talking about body image.

Lovato said in an interview with Glam Belleza Latina posted last Thursday that being Latina definitely has affected her self-esteem.

The Neon Lights singer said, "You must love yourself," when talking about outer beauty not always reflecting in one's inner beauty. She claimed, "Well, you can be the most beautiful woman in the world and see yourself as hideous," which is why you have to love yourself.

Lovato explained that she always had a difficult time appreciating her Latin culture since she thought she didn't look Hispanic. She thought she looked more white than anything else.

"I tried to conform to what everyone thinks is beautiful. But my genetics gave me a curvy figure, and I've come to understand that in the Latina culture, that is beautiful. I no longer look at my body and think, 'Oh my gosh, I have such a fat butt.' Or, 'I hate my thighs.' On some days I don't love them. But, you know, that's one of the things that makes me, me," she shared.

Lovato even dished on how social media plays into body image. She said social platforms began to impact her life when she was only 14-years-old.

"I would check it obsessively, reading comments and wondering if people noticed that I'd gained or lost weight. I allowed social media to define what I thought of my body. And now I realize that no matter how thin you are, someone will call you fat. No matter how beautiful you are, someone will call you ugly. But you can't spend your time worrying about that. You're just not going to please the world."

Furthermore, Lovato is very open when discussing her past struggles with eating disorders. She claims she has a nutritionist who sends her meals wherever she is on the road. "This makes everything super simple," she shared, knowing that she'll eat right while touring.
