Just two days ago, Matt Lauer asked if Zayn Malik was abusing drugs after he failed to make an appearance on The Today Show with his band mates. Malik immediately fired back at Lauer saying he was simply sick, but photos have emerged that may suggest otherwise.

Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan joined Lauer and Al Roker on Monday morning to promote their new album and when Malik failed to show up for his appearance on Today, viewers were left with some unanswered questions.

When Lauer asked the question that was on everyone's mind, of course he received backlash from 1D fans, but he also received some heat from Malik.

After defending himself, Malik finally returned to the stage with the rest of his band mates, however it seems as if all is not well in paradise.

According to the Daily Mail, photos of Malik have emerged, and the heartthrob appears to have red puffy eyes and he seems to be out of it. These photographs of Malik were taken as he was preparing to reunite with the rest of the 1D group.

On Monday, when asked about Malik's alleged substance abuse, Payne came to the rescue to shut down drug use rumors. Payne explained that Malik simple had a 'tummy bug' and insisted that he would be back on the stage soon.

Malik has reunited with the group, but people are still eager to find out what's really going on.
