Tom Hardy was believed to be close to taking on the villain role in X-Men, but the actor seems like he is moving on to DC's Suicide Squad instead. But it seems like another big name star could be filling in for the role in the next leg of the series?

Jennifer Lawrence Speaks Out On Mystique In 'X-Men: Apocalypse,' Says She Is 'In Hiding'

In an episode of Meet the Movie Press on Friday, the panelists talked about the recent news around X-Men: Apocalypse and who they could see taking on the role. During the discussion, Jeff Sneider of The Wrap brought up that a new name had surfaced after Hardy seemingly passed on the role.

While he didn't reveal a name, Sneider said that "we heard him say the word apocalypse a lot last year."

Could This 'Insurgent' Star Be Added To The 'X-Men: Apocalypse' Short List?

Indiewire did some digging and came up with one name that could fit that description: Idris Elba in Pacific Rim.

Of course, Elba's iconic line in that movie was "today we are cancelling the apocalypse!" But the actor also is someone who has experience with superhero franchises. He also is someone who had some choice words for his experience at Marvel and recently made comments that called the production of Thor: The Dark World "torture."

Sneider hasn't sad yet if Elba was who he was talking about, but the actor could consider doing X-Men if he has time to appear in the other films that he is also working on. It also could make it better for him if he does something like Josh Brolin in Guardians of the Galaxy as Thanos and doesn't necessarily have to do too much on-screen work.
