When the 29-year-old won the award for favorite country album for Just As I Am, he gave her a passionate kiss before going on stage. Gilbert, who beat Garth Brooks and Eric Church, also mentioned Cochran in his acceptance speech.

“My beautiful fiancée is here tonight so hey baby,” he said.

Gilbert and Cochran, a schoolteacher from his hometown of Jefferson, Ga., plan to tie the knot next June.

"Amber is an amazing person and has inspired a lot of my songs from 'More Than Miles' to 'You Don't Know Her Like I Do' for the last 10 years," Gilbert told People. "I'm a blessed man to have her back in my life and can't wait to make her my wife."

The singer first opened up about the relationship during the Bobby Bones Show last month and explained that their love affair started years ago.

"It was one of those things that was on and off for few years - mostly on - and then she was the one that got away for about five years," he told the country radio program in the midst of his "Let It Ride" tour. "And it kind of came back around and I can honestly say I've never been happier. This little one, she's the one, and I'm a pretty stoked dude. I'm pretty excited to say the least."
