Covert Affairs fans have all been wondering if the door will open back up for Auggie and Annie. It definitely seemed like it, but it doesn't look like it from some of the promos.

Auggie Won't Have The Ability 'To Control Much Of His Fate On 'Covert Affairs?'

On Sunday, TVLine addressed this famous question with executive producers Matt Corman and Chris Ord this week. Corman teased of Annie's major challenges, personally and professionally, saying that they were changing the paradigm right off the bat.

Following the intense moments of last season, Ord says fans can expect Annie to be completely different, which could be a reason why Corman says Annie will have to face these challenges before a relationship with Auggie can truly happen.

Auggie Finds Out Where Annie Is On 'Covert Affairs'

"The central question on this show has always been - the polygrapher asked it in the pilot - 'Can you separate work and personal life? Can you keep them both compartmentalized?' They always bleed into one another, and they always challenge and compromise one another," Corman said.

Corman also gave way to say that it is the nature of the job as a spy that tends to get in the way of life-as-usual: "It is the toll that this job takes and the challenges that one faces doing this job."

Even with this setback, Corman said that Annie and Auggie will always be in one another's lives, but that in the first episode we'll get clarity as to where they're going to be and where they're headed.

Covert Affairs returns this December 4 at 10/9c on USA Network. Prepare for the return by watching the trailer below.
