With the series in flux, and Sony looking at different options for their hero, is this the correct time to introduce Miles Morales into the Spider-Man film canon or would he be a dud with moviegoers?

MoviePilot broke down the pros and cons on Monday of bringing Miles Morales to film in the Spider-Man universe and whether he would work with the universe that Sony is trying to create right now.

They listed that having a new person, especially someone who is black as the face of Spider-Man will definitely turn some heads and get some major mainstream attention. They also added that Miles Morales, as a boy of a Black Hispanic background, could open up more possibilities for more ethnically diverse superheroes and actors/actresses to play them.

This is an option that has been thrown around since the reception to another look at Peter Parker's origin story has soured audiences with the new series and putting Morales in could help to re-invigorate the character.

The site listed casting a black Spider-Man will cause an uproar among Peter Parker purists as a con. They also said that some would argue that Miles Morales doesn't have the same kind of draw as Peter Parker which could lead to smaller audiences and less financial gain.

This could be true, but it is a risk worth taking. Look at DC with Cyborg and possibly Green Lantern being black. Marvel just cast Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther. There are going to be black superheroes and Sony could join the upswing by bringing in Morales to play the part.

It also could open up a stream of social commentary that is unprecedented in superhero movies and could show that there is a lot to say within a superhero or Spider-Man movie just by the character.
