Black Friday sales are officially set to begin in just two days, and though several people are gearing up to line up at their favorite stores and grab big deals on electronics, toys, home goods, apparel and other things, retail employees are gearing up for the one work day they despise most each year.

The Best Black Friday Toy Deals

While stores are offering hundreds of huge discounts and deals to get shoppers to come to their stores and spend their hard-earned dollars, those who choose to shop when stores open up on Thanksgiving Day may be forgetting one important thing-the impact on those who work for these companies.

But why exactly is Black Friday one of the worst shopping days of the year for retail employees?

1. Though shoppers are willingly cutting their Thanksgiving dinner plans short to wait in line for sales, retail employees aren't willingly doing so-and some are even threatened that they will lose their jobs if they don't report to work.

When people shop on Thanksgiving, employees have to report to work-and can't escape working on the day by requesting time off, which some retailers ban their employees from doing.

2. Hours are long

In addition to having to cut Thanksgiving short, employees are often scheduled for longer shifts than the usual eight hours. Some are on their feet for 10-12 hours-maybe even longer.

3. Huge Crowds of Crazed and Angry Shoppers

Crowds on Black Friday can be overwhelming and downright scary as shoppers literally get into fights over products. When doors open and crowds pour into a store, employees lives can even be at risk-some have even died after being crushed by crowds. And those who aren't in charge of opening the doors can still suffer from people screaming at them and threatening them-and even injuring them as well.

4. Getting screamed at about being politically correct

Christmas may be the more popular holiday of the season, but retail employees need to recognize that not everyone celebrates Christmas. Yet, some people take offense when they say "Happy Holidays," and scream at them for not acknowledging Christmas.

5. Christmas Music Begins on an Endless Loop-and doesn't end for a month

If employees loved Christmas music before working retail, they start hating it after Black Friday hits, because then they can never escape the songs until well after the holiday season ends (especially since the same 10-15 songs generally play in one loop).

6. People Make Huge Messes-and the Employees Have To Clean It All Up

Clothes...toys...everything...is everywhere. And shoppers may have gotten their deals and since gone home, but the employees get to stay behind and try and make the store look presentable again. Because tomorrow, the next wave of shoppers is going to come through.
