State of Affair is off to a great start as an NBC TV series, and when Katherine Heigl set out as an actress and executive producer for the show, she had her own goals.

In an interview with Detroit Free Press on Sunday she opened up about why she joined the team to begin with:

"I wanted to show a side of the CIA we don't often see in film and television," Heigl said.

Interestingly enough, she didn't know that POTUS stood for President of the United States before filming the series, even though her character reports to the fictional president.

After delving into the specifics of the complicated life of a CIA agent, Heigl told Detroit Free Press that she's come to appreciate the complexities of high-level intelligence work.

When her job of telling the story of a CIA agent who lives a hectic life is over, Heigl said she would love to get more into producing as the State of Affairs set has been a place where she gets to learn as she goes.

"There's so many stories to tell...I would love to be telling them but not necessarily performing them," she said.

Only the ratings for this series will tell the future for the cast and the series itself. According to Detroit Free Press, its opening night ratings were generally characterized as decent by the trade press, as it drew 8.69 million viewers.
