There's a major new storyline that may be coming to Grey's Anatomy next year.

Sarah Drew Shows Off Baby Bump in New Photo

According to TVLine.com, a character named Travis is heading to the Grey Sloan Memorial with a trans storyline. The character is described as "an attractive, good-humored thirtysomething man who will make the 'believable transition' to a woman over time." Travis will also become very close to one specific doctor at Grey Sloan.

This won't be the first time Shonda Rhimes incorporated a transgender story in the show. Last year, a transgender teen couple was featured in the episode "The Face of Change." Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) and Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) were the ones working with the two, who were admitted to the hospital.

Does Ellen Pompeo Want To Quit Acting After Grey's Anatomy?

Aside from the interesting new character, next year will also feature more drama with Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) after he officially agreed that he should take the president's offer.

"I see it as a tremendous opportunity for a really good and interesting conflict that we have not seen between them," Dempsey told The Hollywood Reporter. "We have no idea what [showrunner] Shonda Rhimes has in her mind and where she's going to take [their story]. She might want to break them up to bring them back together. That would be the thing to do. We have a long way to go in this season, so there's a lot you can do and resolve or not resolve. We'll see what happens."

Grey's Anatomy returns on Jan. 29 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
