America's Next Top Model began airing its first cycle in May 2003 and is now airing Cycle 21, which leads us to say each cycle teaches its viewers the same things over and over again.

Cycle 21 Contestant, Chantelle Brown-Young, On 'ANTM' Speaks Out About Tyra Banks Casting Her Since She Suffers From Vitiligo

Off the bat, the first thing that comes to mind from the series is Tyra Banks teaching the potential models to "smize." Technically she didn't coin this term until Cycle 13 when she told contestant Erin Wagner, "You need to smize more in your photo." That led to Banks explaining the term, which means, "Smile more with your eyes."

See the video below of Banks and other judges on the various cycles telling the contestants to "smize." Model or not, you can "smize." Banks also has a video of herself from her YouTube Channel explaining the term.

Cycle 21 Of 'America's Next Top Model' Means Changes

Another thing that is frequently mentioned on America's Next Top Model is "fierce." As Banks said in the video that can be seen below, "Fierce is a way of life."

Up next it is a known fact that some of the contestants have meltdowns over their makeovers while others embrace them and gain such confidence. Take a look at the clip below from Cycle 18 in which Louise Watts argues with some of the judges about cutting and dying her hair darker. She throws a bit of a tantrum and then by the end believes she is the best one in the competition.

Banks always wants the contestants to succeed. She gives them advice throughout their duration in the competition and sometimes gets wrapped up in her emotions and explodes like she did during Cycle 4 when Tiffany Richardson showed a poor attitude and just gave up. Banks can be seen in the video clip below screaming at Richardson, "I was rooting for you! We were all rooting for you!"

Lastly, confidence is important. It's clear from cycle-to-cycle the contestants aren't always confident, but just having a little bit of confidence in yourself goes a long way. For instance, CariDee English, from Cycle 7 who went on to win, suffers from Psoriasis and in a clip from her cycle below she said, "Plus, I have my skin disease where I never thought I'd succeed in the modeling industry."

English managed to shine despite her physical setbacks, which goes to show anyone can shine with some confidence.

Are there any other things from the America's Next Top Model series that belong on our list?

ANTM is currently airing Cycle 21 on Fridays on The CW at 9 p.m. ET.
