Taylor spoke with Madame Noire earlier this month and said, "I'm a real Aaliyah fan. So I'm still looking at it like her fan. Not Teyana Taylor. I'm looking at it like 'Hello? Where is the family.'

Of course when you hear the news that people want you to read for the part, it's been in talks for so long, you say 'Ok cool.' But once you calm down you need details."

She added that when she was first approached as a potential to play Aaliyah in the film, she found the opportunity to meet the family "the most exciting part."

However, that would not have happened considering Aaliyah's family did not back the film at all. In fact, Lifetime could not even any of Aaliyah's music in the flick.

Taylor added, "I didn't care about the movie. I cared about 'If I do get this part, when are we gonna start hanging out with her mom? When are we gonna start hanging out with [her brother] Rashad?'"

The Google Me singer said that she was not given enough details to move forward with the film. But fans could still see Taylor's skills as her friend leaked her audition tape.
