They're supposedly going to be tackling their critics in their highly-anticipated fourth season next year, but there may not be any hope to prove they're real on Amish Mafia.

The newest attack on the Discovery Channel series comes from former Dirty Jobs host Mike Rowe, who had a Reddit AMA recently where he talked about reality shows-and the fact that they are definitely not as unscripted as the programs would have their fans believe.

"In my industry, several well-known terms are currently in the process of being redefined," he said during the chat. Terms like 'non-fiction' and 'unscripted.' These words no longer mean what they used to mean. Today the Ducks have a dynasty, the Amish have a Mafia, and until very recently, Honey had a Boo-Boo."

"These programs, in spite of their popularity, all aired under the 'nonfiction' umbrella. And Yet they all have writer's rooms," he added. "The truth is, it's become very difficult to produce a show with no second takes, and no script, because the people in charge of putting them on the air would prefer to control them, in the same way an executive might be able to control an episode of The Big Bang Theory."

Amish Mafia has often come under attack for being a false representation of the Amish lifestyle, with several outlets calling for it to be yanked off the air. The cast also appeared to begin rejecting their own show, after they appeared to no longer want to film at the end of their third season. A fourth season is currently being filmed once again in Lancaster County, but original cast members Esther and John Schmucker, as well as Jolin Zimmerman, have all chosen not to return.

Amish Mafia season 4 is scheduled to begin airing in early 2015.
