“We covered ‘i believe in a thing called love’ by the darkness. the best way to listen is in your room in the dark. hope you like it,” the duo wrote on Instagram on Wednesday.

The X Factor USA winners effortlessly changed the 2003 song from a heavy rock tune into a softer, more mellow sound. The singers said they were influenced by an unexpected source - Disney’s The Little Mermaid.

“We arranged it,” they tweeted. “Sierra started singing the little mermaid (ah ah ahhhhh) and that sparked the rest of our version.”

The real-life couple, who released their debut album It’s About Us in October, are known for their ability to faultlessly change up a tune. When they auditioned for the X Factor in 2013, they blew the judges away with their rendition of Britney Spears' 2003 hit "Toxic." During the show, they also gave a memorable performance of Sara Bareilles' "Gravity," which brought judge Demi Lovato to tears.

The couple won the third season of the Fox competition show after being mentored by judge Simon Cowell. They became the first and only group to win the now defunct American edition of the show.
