With the midseason finale just around the corner on The CW, The Originals will continue to explore exactly how far Klaus (Joseph Morgan) will go to protect his daughter.

'Villains Have More Fun' On The CW's 'The Originals'

During an interview with KSite TV on Monday (featured below), Morgan delved into what it's like for Klaus now that he's murdered his own birth father. Klaus claimed that he had to kill his father to keep his mother, Esther (Sonja Sohn), from discovering the whereabouts of baby Hope, but Morgan admitted that Klaus does regret having murdered the man he'd longed for all his life.

"One of the things we know about Klaus is he can be impulsive…" explained the actor. "I don't know if he'd admit to regretting it, but I think certainly he questions his decision later on in life. I've been playing towards that when it's brought up to me in scenes."

"He convinces himself he had to do it…" continued Morgan of his highly emotional character. "He has this wonderful excuse to commit the most terrible acts now, but I'm not sure if he really believes it himself."

Moving forward, Klaus will have the opportunity to explore the relationship he has with his brothers Finn (Yusuf Gatewood) and Kol (Daniel Sharman). Morgan is "thrilled" that Gatewood was upgraded to a series regular this month, claiming him to be an incredibly talented actor with a lot to bring to the character.

Finn had only briefly been featured on The Vampire Diaries when the original vampires were first introduced, and so Morgan believes there is a "wealth of character to be mined" there as the season continues.

The Originals continues on The CW with its second season Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
