As Marvel maps out their plans for the third phase of movies in their universe and DC is set until 2020 with new superhero features, Sony sits on the sidelines with a lot of possibilities. But could the solution to their problem be a simple fix?

Forbes broke down the Spider-Man brand on Sunday and tried to give the studio some options as to how to get the franchise back on track. The one solution they had: make a good movie.

According to the site, Sony basically has two choices at this point. They can basically reboot again or they can just stay the course and trust in the inherent popularity of the character.

They add that one of the core narrative flaws of the most recent series was killing off Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy, which they call the emotional core and one of the things the franchise was doing right.

The site does bring up good points and is right to say that a good movie would fix everything. Batman was dead in the water in the 1990s after the last two movies caved, but Christopher Nolan revived the brand with Batman Begins and now the rest is history.

Spider-Man needs that hit and maybe it could be Sinister Six because without a hit, there is no reasonable excuse to keep going with the expanded universe. Andrew Garfield and Stone or not, the brand is struggling and Sony is going to have to do something to bring people back to what is one of Marvel's most well-known superheroes.
