According to Crowd Fund Insider, which follows the status of films that received funding from efforts like Kickstarter, the movie, titled Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland, changed locations to Wilmington because, according to creator Eric Falconer, the South Carolina Film Commission changed their minds about allowing the movie to film there because they felt it was too raunchy.

"[They were] so appalled by our script that they refused to approve our bid for tax credits," Falconer said. "That's how crazy and epic this movie is...it got us kicked out of the entire state. Fortunately, Wilmington (NC) has welcomed us with open arms."

The movie, which earned nearly $2 million through a Kickstarter fundraiser back in May, is expected to pick up where an original Spike TV series, Blue Mountain State, left off after it was pulled from the network following a three-year run.

The exact plot of the film has not yet been revealed, but is expected to continue the story of Thad (Alan Ritchson), Alex (Darin Brooks), and Sammy's (Romanski) senior year of college at the country's fictional top football school.

The movie is also supposed to star other familiar faces that appeared on the TV show, including Denise Richards, Frances Shaw, Kelly Kruger, Sam Jones III and Ed Marinaro.

Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland is expected to open in theaters in Spring 2015.
