While the events of the second Captain America movie catapulted a lot of what happened during Marvel's Phase 3, it seems like the next outing for Thor could be the movie that defines the politics of the upcoming slate of movies.

The First Look At 'Thor 3' Could Come During 'Avengers 2'

Captain America: The Winter Soldier was the main focus of Marvel's Phase 2 because it took apart one of the cores of the Marvel universe right now, S.H.I.E.L.D., and broke it apart due to an infiltration of Hydra thanks to Alexander Pierce and other agents.

This led to the whole organization being taken apart and left the Avengers and Captain America at an awkward place as they head to the end of the phase.

'Avengers 2' Could Force Thor To Leave The Team Heading Into Future Movies

This same thing should be happening in Thor 3 as the destruction of Asgard could also mean that Thanos is gathering up the Infinity Stones and will be almost ready to unleash his Infinity Gauntlet on the universe, which will require the attention of the Avengers (and two movies).

While it may not directing affect the other Avengers, the destruction of Thor's home could mean the first step by Thanos in his reckoning and the eventual decision to come after Earth. It also could tie-in the other heroes in space, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and start the massive integration.

The movie may not end up being as successful or critically-acclaimed as the Captain America movie, but it will be crucially important to the timeline of Phase 3 as it takes place following the second Avengers movie and will put in motion the events that will lead to the third Avengers film.
