Global Grind caught up with Coleman at the Nickelodeon Halo Awards, which was also the day the film premiered on Lifetime.

She revealed, "I am probably not gonna watch it because I will be on a plane. I will be working and on a plane. I'm kinda like, detached from the project. I think that the young lady that's taking over the role, she's gonna do her best. I wish everyone the best.

"It's just, it's not my place anymore. It's taken it's own life. I'm just not a part of it."

Coleman was originally offered the role as lead singer Aaliyah in the biopic, but when she found out the family was not behind the film she decided not to be a part of it. Actress Alexandra Shipp then took on the role.

While she did not watch the film, the reporter interviewing her revealed to Coleman that she actually saw the film before it aired. She told Coleman she did a "good job" for choosing not to be involved with the film.

Coleman simply covered her face and said, "I have nothing to do with this."

Just hours later during the premiere, Coleman tweeted, than later deleted "Karma."

Shipp also revealed that she "ran into" Coleman at a Teen Vogue event just after she took over the part.

"We talked about it and controversy is just silly. We didn't know what people expected us to do or say about it. For us we just kind of giggled about it. I'm a huge fan of hers. It was just like 'hey girl, we're both women of color in a crazy industry where there aren't many of us on the screen right now.' We're just working hard."
