The truth is, the Aaliyah biopic should have never been made. Her family owns all the rights to her music and her image, they asked not to move forward and it was based off of an unauthorized biopic. It was doomed from the start. But, there just may be hope for Lifetime after all, with their newest biopic, "Whitney."

Wendy Williams Brushes Off Massive Aaliyah Biopic Backlash

The film's director and well-known actress Angela Bassett recently revealed to E! that the story will mainly follow "the journey between Whitney and Bobby."

The trailer looks legit. There's hope after all.

1. Yaya DaCosta embodies Whitney and is super serious about acting.

From her time on America's Next Top Model, it was evident the Yaya Dacosta was a star. Her no non-sense attitude often rubbed viewers and contestants the wrong way, but her work was always phenomenal.

After proving her chops in films like, "Lee Daniels' The Butler," Bassett and her casting team seem to have done a great job at making her the star.

2. From the film's new trailer, it seems like they are using Whitney's music.

One of the main problems with the Aaliyah biopic was the lack of music. All of the great biopics are supposed to take you back to the time in which you watched the celebrity perform or live their lives. Without the music, when telling a story about a singer, you really have nothing.

3. Angela Bassett knew Whitney Houston.

Bassett and Houston starred in the classic ladies night film, "Waiting to Exhale" together, and though Bassett admitted in a recent interview that they were not best friends after their project, she "had an opportunity to appreciate and love her from afar." Houston's family and Bobby Brown are not directly involved with the film but according to her, Bobby gave the okay.

4. This story is more about her love story with Bobby Brown, than the minute details of Whitney's life.

Bobby and Whitney had a whirlwind relationship. Bassett witnessed it first hand and wanted the positives and negatives to be shown on camera, to tell their love story away from the cameras. Unfortunately, true to life, drugs will be involved but not the focal point of the film.

5. Lifetime truly has no place to go but up.

Fortunately, Aaliyah's biopic may have arguably been one of the worst biopics ever made. Hopefully, that was the network's rock bottom and this film will redeem their distraught fans' faith in them, again.
