According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cumberbatch added that he was "excited, really excited" to play the Marvel sorcerer but said he couldn't provide more details about the film. He pointed out that he had a lot of work ahead of him on the project.

It was a long road for the actor as he nabbed the part of interested names like Ryan Gosling, Colin Farrell, and Ethan Hawke. With his star continuing to rise, it seems like Marvel wanted to jump on it and help the British star go to the top of Hollywood with this role.

As for the work, Cumberbatch said that he was unsure when it would start, but speculation has pegged an appearance or cameo in either Avengers: Age of Ultron or Captain America: Civil War as possibilities for the character.

After that, he will join director Scott Derrickson as the two prepare for the 2017 release date as the unveil the character for his first solo film.
