On Sunday, the band tweeted that Clifford lost his passport and therefore wasn't able to fly to the United Kingdom with Ashton Irwin, Calum Hood and Luke Hemmings to perform at Capital FM's Jingle Bell Ball that night at the O2 Arena in London.

Clifford apologized for his absence. He tweeted, "Really really sorry to anyone I've let down by not being able to come you get a free pass to call me stupid" along with a frowning emoji face.

Irwin, Hood and Hemmings went on to perform and after Hemmings tweeted about missing Clifford up on stage with them. He said that it "wasn't the same" since Clifford wasn't there.

They've also gone on to do interviews, in which they've discussed the absence of Clifford.

Tuesday the three members in the United Kingdom did an interview with BBC Radio 1's Breakfast Show. The host Nick Grimshaw spoke to them about Clifford's absence as reported by Unreality TV.

Irwin said, "It's so wrong when you're in a band and a guy's not there. It's almost like you're betraying him. We were on stage as a three piece, and it wasn't awesome at all."

Hemmings explained how Clifford's passport got lost. "Our tour manager holds our passports and gives it to us before the flight. We have it for maybe an hour, then he takes it back off us. In that time [Michael] lost it."

Hood also shared that while in the United Kingdom the band usually has "a group text, but he's not in it."

5 Seconds of Summer has another gig scheduled for tonight in Liverpool, but it looks like Clifford won't be there either.
