Singer and musician Rick Springfield, known for the hit 1991 tune Jessie's Girl, has apparently joined the popular crime drama.

Springfield noted his first day of production on Twitter Thursday in spite of the fact that HBO has made no formal announcement regarding his involvement.

Fans were completely taken by surprise, especially since much of the True Detective cast had already been filled in over the last few months with alum from shows like Castle, True Blood, and Dexter.

This won't be the first time Springfield's been in front of the camera, having previously done a brief spent on Showtime's Californication.

True Detective's new season will be led by Vince Vaughn (career criminal Frank Semyon), Colin Farrell (Detective Ray Velcoro), Rachel McAdams (Detective Ani Bezzerides), and Taylor Kitsch (Officer Paul Woodrugh). The story will follow the murder of a city manager in California.

True Detective will return on HBO for a second season mid-2015.
