The Newsroom just aired its second to last episode, Oh Shenandoah, this past Sunday, which led to a lot of controversy that one of the stars, Olivia Munn, is speaking out about now.

Aaron Sorkin Speaks Out About The Controversy Brought On By The Latest Episode Of 'The Newsroom'

On Wednesday, Entertainment Weekly gained perspective from Munn about the episode and the controversy that came with it.

Munn appeared on EW Morning Live where she spoke about the reactions to the plot of the second to last episode of The Newsroom.

'The Newsroom's Sam Waterston Talks About The Series Ending

Sloan Sabbith is the character that Munn portrays and she is in a relationship with producer Don Keefer (Thomas Sadoski), who in the episode is assigned with speaking to an alleged rape victim. The alleged victim has created a website where other victims at her college can tell their stories anonymously. Keefer disapproves of the site. He claims it could potentially be used to print defamatory statements about males who did not actually commit wrongdoings.

The night the episode aired, a writer for the last season of the show, Alena Smith, tweeted her unhappiness about the episode and then show creator Aaron Sorkin released a statement to Mediaite Monday regarding the controversy brought on by Smith's remarks and overall audience reactions to the plot.

Munn told EW, "It should have been more poignant and more interesting, and not about her," when talking about Smith's reaction to the episode.

She also defended Sorkin's plot, saying that both sides of the story were represented.

"The reality is that Sorkin writes things so that they can be talked about, and so we show both sides of it. I think it was important to show what it's like for women to be a rape victim, want to speak out, and then have somebody come in and say, 'Hey don't do that. That's going to be bad for you.' Sorkin wasn't saying 'Don't do that.' He was saying 'This is what happens.'"

The Newsroom is currently airing its final season on HBO at 9 p.m. ET on Sundays. The final episode airs Dec. 14 and is called What Kind of Day Has It Been. See the preview below.
