Even though they didn't release this movie in 2014, it didn't keep Disney from dominating the Facebook feeds of the world with this film. But what is the future for the franchise now that Frozen is a bonafide sensation still?

'Frozen 2' To Be Much Darker? Sequel Could Follow Original Story The Movie Is Based On

The Guardian reported on Wednesday that Disney's Frozen was the most-talked about movie of 2014 on Facebook. The studio came in second place also with Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy placing second followed by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Maleficent and The Lego Movie.

The site added that Facebook did not release data on the number of likes or comments received by each movie. The Fault in Our Stars, Gone Girl and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 also made the top 10.

'Frozen Fever' Short To Premiere Before 'Cinderella' Next Year, But Will The Whole Cast Return?

Apple also revealed that Frozen is now its most popular download ever on iTunes. The Official Charts Company announced last week that the film is on course to become the highest selling DVD of the decade in Britain after passing the 3 million mark for sales in 2014.

But with this massive popularity, does that push Disney to move forward with a sequel?

The wait may still be awhile as the animation studio is not in dire need to make something with the merchandising going out of the roof. With DVD sales, and a proposed Broadway show coming, it seems like the animation mogul can hold off with a sequel for awhile and keep fans at bay with short films much like Toy Story did. But like that Pixar hit, another movie will be coming.

The characters of Frozen return for Frozen Fever in 2015, which includes a new song, and plays in front of Cinderella.
